Hailing from Levittown, Roger is being honored for his continuing commitment to the student-athletes on Long Island. Roger was a High School wrestling champion under Hall of Fame coach Bob Goldberg at MacArthur High School. He was an intercollegiate champion at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He continued his competitive career after graduation by winning a title at the NYS Empire games. Following his years as a wrestler, Roger coached at Farmingdale University and at George Washington University in Washington DC. Today in his role as a government official and political leader, he continues to draw on the lessons he learned on the mat. He often takes time from his busy schedule to mentor young people and has continued his avid interest in the sport of wrestling as a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Long Island Wresling and The Long Island Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
